Front-end Developer

The Graphic Design House offers a business solution through a creative and dynamic approach. Specialising in four key areas; graphic design, web design, online marketing and print.

Your main responsibility is for the production, modification and maintenance of websites and web application’s user interfaces. This involves working closely with the Head of Digital and the Senior Web Designer, in using semantic mark-up languages, to turn designs into eye catching campaigns across social media, web and mobile.

Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate timing estimates on work
  • Contribute to documentation (instructional, pitch and technical specification)
  • Contribute to the company development standards
  • Discuss technical solutions and provide innovative new ideas to solutions
  • Maintain a high awareness of industry issues and trends, particularly in regard to accessibility, usability, and emerging technologies, and keep team members informed as appropriate, with a view to incorporating these in future projects and staying ahead of the market and position yourself and the company as a digital specialist
  • Constantly seek to develop yourself by learning new technologies and keeping abreast of your markets developments.

Skills and experience

  • Excellent HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript skills
  • Experienced in building mobile first responsive websites
  • Developing cross-browser and cross-platform compatible solutions
  • Exceptional JavaScript programming skills
  • Experience with jQuery
  • Excitement about emerging web technologies and how to progressively use them in projects
  • Experience working with version control systems, preferably Git
  • Familiar with using a task runner e.g. Gulp/Grunt
  • Experience with Angular, React or VueJs is welcome but not necessary
  • Good understanding of Web Accessibility
  • Experience building sites to at least an AA standard
  • Some experience in AJAX techniques
  • Knowledge of HTML email best practice
  • Understanding of how to optimise a site for best performance
  • Ability to take on multiple projects (large/small)
  • Strong time-management skills to meet project deadlines
  • Familiarity with Photoshop

Nice to have

  • Experience using CSS naming conventions, particularly BEM and ITCSS
  • Understanding of a front-end boilerplate
