Re-energising a season brochure

The brief

Chelmsford Theatre, managed by Chelmsford City Council, is the city’s cultural hub. It hosts a diverse programme including theatre, comedy, live music, dance, talks, and an annual pantomime. Following recent refurbishment and rebranding, 2023 has been a key year in reconnecting with the local community.

Chelmsford Theatre tasked us with redesigning their season brochure to better reflect their refreshed brand and make it easy for audiences to access information. The aim was to create a visually appealing, user-friendly printed brochure while also providing a highlights diary for quick reference. Efficient delivery, value for money, and print & mail expertise were essential considerations for the council-managed venue.

Our approach

The season’s content was presented in two ways: a full brochure with detailed show information, and an 8-page roll-fold diary insert listing all shows in date order for quick reference.

We used our expertise in design, print, and mail to produce a season brochure that not only made an impact when delivered to homes but was also mindful of sustainability. This approach ensured that the brochure was both effective in its purpose and responsible in its production.

Results & next steps

The redesigned season brochure and highlights diary delivered a clear, user-friendly overview of Chelmsford Theatre’s programme. The materials matched the theatre’s new visual identity and improved audience engagement by providing both detailed and quick-reference information. The cover design highlighted the season’s standout shows, creating an immediate visual impact. The project also enabled the campaign visuals to be repurposed across posters, digital ads, and social media, supporting consistent branding for the theatre throughout the season.

We continue to support Chelmsford Theatre with supplementary design assets and marketing materials for future seasons, maintaining a cohesive brand presence across print and digital channels and helping the theatre build on the momentum of their rebrand.
