The Lights’ Theatre: Modern Brochure Redesign
The Client
The Lights is a vibrant cultural hub in the heart of Hampshire, offering a diverse range of entertainment and arts-related activities. With a fully raked 249-seat auditorium, large Arena Hall, business rooms, dance studios, and the stylish Atrium Cafe Bar, The Lights provides a comprehensive venue for music, theatre, comedy, dance, and community events. Since the start of 2023, The Graphic Design House (TGDH) has partnered with The Lights to elevate their branding and communication materials.
The Opportunity
The brochure is a key communication tool for The Lights, helping to attract audiences to their diverse range of shows and events. A modern, visually appealing brochure was crucial for capturing the attention of younger audiences while retaining the interest of long-term customers. The Lights wanted to refresh their seasonal brochure with a modern design aimed at engaging a younger audience. The goal was to create a suite of brochures that would maintain a visual connection across seasons while ensuring each edition stood out. The challenge was to move away from heavy colour backgrounds that compromised text legibility and to develop a cohesive design that aligned with the theatre’s branding.
“We are delighted to be working with such a forward-thinking company in TGDH, who are delivering exceptional services to The Lights.”

Our Approach
Design Alignment with Brand Identity: The team at The Graphic Design House began by closely aligning the new brochure design with The Lights’ existing logo. The triangular light shape from the logo inspired the shapes and angles throughout the brochure, creating a cohesive visual theme. This approach ensured that the brochure not only looked modern but also felt intrinsically connected to the theatre’s brand identity.
New Fonts and Colour Palette: To enhance readability and modernise the look, we selected a rounded sans-serif font for headings, complementing the round letters in the logo. A new colour palette, inspired by the logo gradient, was developed to provide a vibrant and versatile key for categorising the different genres of shows. This palette allowed for clear differentiation between seasonal brochures while maintaining a consistent brand feel.
Innovative Layout and Design Elements: The brochure’s layout was designed to be both visually striking and functional. Image frames, inspired by the logo’s angles, were uniquely shaped and linked to month tabs, date boxes, and quote boxes, ensuring a cohesive look throughout. The cover design featured a burst effect of shapes hosting show imagery, with some images extending beyond the frames. Colour gradients spread across the cover, updated each season to create a visually connected yet distinct suite of brochures.
These design elements were not just aesthetic choices; they were strategic decisions aimed at enhancing the user experience and ensuring that the brochure effectively communicated the theatre’s offerings to both new and existing audiences.
Results
The redesigned brochure was well-received by The Lights’ long-term customers and successfully met the client’s goals of modernizing the design and engaging a younger audience. The cohesive yet dynamic design elements ensured that each season’s brochure was distinct but visually connected, enhancing brand recognition and audience engagement.
Next Steps
Building on the success of the brochure redesign, we continue to produce each season’s brochure, along with a digital Issuu version for the client’s website. The ongoing partnership between TGDH and The Lights will focus on further refining and evolving the brochure design to keep it fresh, engaging, and aligned with the theatre’s brand to help to attract audiences to their diverse range of shows and events.
“We have already had very positive feedback from our customer base about the new brochure, and we are excited to see what the future will bring working with TGDH. Laura, Yasmin, and Tom have been superb in their correspondence. A big thank you from the team at The Lights.”
